Dura Vermeer, one of the top players in the Dutch construction sector, faced an unexpected challenge: their data center had to be relocated. With the help of Interstellar, a flawless transition was set in motion without disrupting business operations.
Dura Vermeer has been in existence since 1855 and has grown into one of the top construction companies in the Netherlands, with a strong focus on residential construction, non-residential construction, and infrastructure. The company combines local expertise with the power of a organization operating on national level.
Due to an unexpected closure of the data center where they had been receiving their services, Dura Vermeer called upon Interstellar at the end of 2019. The assignment: the design and implementation of IT infrastructure for a new data center and the relocation of equipment from the old data center. Not a straightforward task in itself, especially not during the COVID-19 pandemic that was raging at the time. It was crucial that the reliability and continuity of the data remained guaranteed.
Interstellar took responsibility for the design and implementation of a new data center. The Managed Services Provider coordinated the transition and ensured that all systems remained operational without downtime.
“Interstellar did everything possible for us to guarantee a smooth relocation. They arranged extra facilities and capacity in our backup data center. This was in case we would experience delays during our move or if the new data center wouldn’t be up and running on time. Because we opted for a phased relocation and also immediately decided to replace a large part of our hardware, we didn’t have a moment of downtime,” says Frans Mol, Applications Manager at Dura Vermeer. “Interstellar has meant a lot to us throughout the entire project and has greatly relieved us of our concerns.”
The relocation provided an opportunity for Dura Vermeer to replace old hardware. “Our new environment is built from the most recent HPE equipment in terms of storage, networking, and compute,” says Sjoerd Wormgoor, Manager of Management and Support at the construction company. “Thanks to Interstellar, we were also able to count on nice discounts and good conditions for our HPE equipment. Therefore, A win-win situation.”
The relocation was a success. The project was completed within the anticipated time with minimal disruptions. Dura Vermeer now has a state-of-the-art data center that supports the continuity of their national operations. The result is a robust system that is ready for future growth and further digitalization.
We view Interstellar as a partner who thinks along with us and supports us in challenges with concrete knowledge and hands-on solutions.
Sjoerd WormgoorManager Beheer en Support, Dura Vermeer“Interstellar has helped us excellently in multiple areas. We have been working with them for a long time, which also gave us the confidence to entrust them with a project with such a pressing deadline. Interstellar is also the preferred supplier of everything that runs in our data center, which put them in an extremely good position to determine what needed to be replaced and what should come in its place. Together, we’ve made the most of it and are more than satisfied with the end result,” says Wormgoor.
The collaboration with Interstellar has not only strengthened Dura Vermeer’s technical infrastructure but also their ability to face future challenges.
Sjoerd Wormgoor: “We see Interstellar as a partner who thinks along with us and supports us in challenges with concrete knowledge and hands-on solutions. The relationship we have built up by now is based on many years of trust.”
