Securing the digital environment should not be an optional extra. Especially now that larger organizations are increasingly being targeted by cybercriminals. Cybercriminals steal sensitive information, personal files, and/or passwords. This makes securing the digital workplace against cyber incidents an absolute necessity. How can an organization protect its digital workplace?

Security measures

Have you factored in a possible cyber attack? Are you taking preventive action or opting for proactive security measures?

Imagine…

  • Guest users with admin rights, while they have no business accessing files, settings or logs
  • No modern authentication or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), making access or login easy
  • Outdated security software that doesn’t intercept new cyber attacks
  • Poor or no encryption, leaving data vulnerable
  • Malware, ransomware, or phishing that sneaks in unnoticed and steals files
  • Human errors, inadvertently leaking passwords or sensitive information

Let’s start by recognizing and raising awareness of cyber risks and mapping all business-critical assets. Who is ultimately responsible, who has access to which data, which laws and regulations must be complied with, is there a backup plan, and how is the security policy secured? By mapping out the who, what, where, when, and how of systems and listing risks for end users, a targeted security policy can be established to secure the digital workplace.

Digital security of tomorrow

Cybercriminals are always active in the dynamic and continuously connected environment. It’s therefore about resilience in minimizing risks or overcoming a cyber attack. How do you build a digital workplace with resilience?

  • All end users form the front line of the organization. Only through proper training and education in cyber risks can you cover the greatest danger. Make them aware of the consequences of phishing emails, malware, or ransomware. Set up organization-wide identity and access management so that only authorized users have access and monitor this. Think of strong passwords, MFA, or modern authentication options.
  • Ensure optimal network & endpoint security by deploying antivirus software, firewalls, encryption, VPNs, and more. Update all operating systems and applications to patch vulnerabilities and make network access more difficult for hackers.
  • Conduct periodic penetration tests/audits to ensure the security of the digital workplace. Identify weak spots and resolve them immediately based on the security policy. Consider the security check!
  • Develop a backup, protocol, or incident response plan to respond quickly and adequately to incidents or data breaches.
  • Work day in and day out on the security policy that complies with laws and regulations. Prevent or minimize reputational damage, system downtime, data loss, or even loss of customer trust.
  • Ready for the battle?

A secure digital workplace with resilience is not a standard entry-level model. But once realized, such a work environment operates much more safely and reliably for employees and the organization as a whole.
